Lawrence Landry, CEO
Lawrence L. Landry founded Westport Advisors, Ltd., an investment management company located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in 1998. Westport funded and developed continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) throughout the United States. Westport was the general partner of the Westport Senior Living Investment Fund, LP a $500 million limited partnership investing in CCRCs. The Fund invested in eight developments, three of which are located in Florida. The term of the Fund expired in the Fall of 2008.
Prior to the formation of Westport, Larry was Chief Investment Officer of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation a position he held for ten years. In that capacity his primary responsibility was the management of the Foundation’s $4 billion in public and private investments, including overseeing the Foundation’s real estate operations in Florida. Larry designed and implemented a strategy to divest and develop over 100,000 acres owned by the Foundation in Florida. Larry has considerable experience in real estate and developments. Following are a few examples:
- BallenIsles – successfully structured a prepackaged bankruptcy permitting the MacArthur Foundation to take back a failed project. Created Dexter Development Company a partnership between a not-for-profit and for profit entities that successfully repositioned and developed BallenIsles a 1,200 unit PCD. Larry served on the Dexter Development Board until July of 1998.
- Abacoa Development – along with Steve Clark of Cypress Realty, founded Abacoa Development Company which successfully planned permitted and developed Abacoa a mixed use new urbanism type of development. Larry was responsible for designing the business plan and structure for Abacoa.
- Structured a joint venture between the MacArthur Foundation, and the Bishop Estate to plan, build and operate Mia Flores, a rental apartment complex located at the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
Prior to the MacArthur Foundation, Larry was Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer with Southern Methodist University, Swarthmore College and Clark University. He has served on the boards of directors for Computervision Corporation, WCI, Greystone Communities, Inc., MacArthur Beach State Park Conservation Board, Grassy Waters Preserve and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Clark University. Larry helped create The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF) and served as its first Chairman. Larry is a past member of the Council of 100.
Larry graduated from Clark University with a B.S. in Business Administration and an M.B.A. in Finance. He also studied at Harvard Business School’s Institute for Educational Management.
